LA Lakers 2013-14 Season Preview

written by: George Middleton

@george51391

After failing to keep one of the NBA’s elite centers, and with the health of Kobe Bryant’s Achilles heal in question, the Los Angeles Lakers appeared to be in peril.

There were even assumptions that the Lakers will throw in the towel this season and go all out in 2014 with one of the best free agent classes of all time.

For LA Galaxy .500 may be OK

written by: Christopher Murry

@ChrisRyanMurry

LA is 2-2 in their last four matches, but enters the second half of the 2013 MLS year only four points behind Western Conference leader, Real Salt Lake. In fact, if the Galaxy were in the Eastern Conference they’d only be three points off the lead.

I know, I know, LA isn’t playing the “sexy” type of soccer a championship team would generally play, but lets be honest, clearly the rest of the league isn’t either.

Are Dodgers Best in Baseball? (Blog)

written by: Christopher Murry

@ChrisRyanMurry

In five words you can sum up the Dodgers recent play, THE DODGERS ARE ON FIRE!

Yes, this is obvious but the question now becomes - "Are the Dodgers the best team in all of baseball? To simply put it, WITHOUT QUESTION THE DODGERS ARE THE BEST TEAM IN ALL OF BASEBALL. Ignore who has a better record, ignore how many games up certain teams are in their division.

It seems to be a common statement as of late: “What the Dodgers are doing this season is on the brink of history,” but sometimes words can be embellished or can go unheard.

It is easy to get excited about your team, get caught up in the moment, and say things that are simply just a mirage (i.e. any 2013 Angels fan).

Galaxy Wins on Keane Hat Trick

After playing to a 3-3 tie with the former top seed in the Western Conference just a week ago (FC Dallas), the LA Galaxy took on conference rival Real Salt Lake for the rubber match last night at Stub Hub Center.

For the second week in a row, a Galaxy star put together a 3-goal performance. Last week it was Landon Donovan, last night Robbie Keane had his chance to dazzle the home crowd with three goals of his own.

Dodgers Winning Streak Snaps at 10

For the first time in 11 games the Dodgers wound up on the losing end of a ball game.

Two defensive miscues from shortstop Hanley Ramirez, and an all familiar scene from LA reliever-Brandon League, gave the Phillies the 3-2 win in the bottom of the ninth.

Chris Paul Elected NBPA President

written by: Lars Lewis

@LarsLewis12

Los Angeles Clippers point guard Chris Paul has succeeded Oklahoma City's Derek Fisher as the new president of the National Basketball Players Union as of yesterday, according to Liz Mullen from Sports Business Journal.

Paul will look to stabilize the NBA and its rather tumultuous relationship between the owners and the NBPA, highlighted by a 149-day lockout in 2011 that took away about a half-billion dollars in revenue.

Angels' 2013 vs Worst Seasons Ever

written by: Steve Granado

@SteveGranado

Easily the most hyped season in Angels’ history has turned completely south; they just keep finding ways to lose.

As the dog days of summer come to a close and postseason runs begin, the question begins to loom: is this the worst season in Angels’ history?

2012 Mike Trout vs 2013 Mike Trout

written by: Steve Granado

@SteveGranado

Angels outfielder Mike Trout is putting together another incredible season in his sophomore year.

Through 116 games, the two seasons are mostly similar, but hidden within the statistics, Trout is actually getting better (Most stats based on his first 116 games of each season).

The regular statistics that baseball fans use to judge a player may say something about Trout’s maturity. Although his 2012 .330 batting average and .329 2013 batting average don’t do anything, his on base percentages might: 2012 - .394, 2013 - .425.

An MRI has revealed that Albert Pujols has torn the plantar fascia ligament in his left foot and has been placed on the 15-day disabled list, according to Mike DiGiovanna of the LATimes. This injury will sideline the 33-year-old for several weeks and most likely the rest of the season.

Angels: Time to Talk Offseason?

written by: Steve Granado
@SteveGranado

The Angels didn’t make the biggest splash at the 2013 non-waiver trade deadline, and probably won’t be doing anything to shock the baseball world during August.

However, the offseason may be GM Jerry Dipoto’s window as far as making significant moves for 2014 and beyond.

Much trade talk surrounded the Halos’ Howie Kendrick and Erick Aybar as the deadline became imminent.

Grant Green: What to Expect

written by: Steve Granado
@SteveGranado

The Angels family recently acquired a new Halo in that of infielder Grant Green (via Callaspo and Athletics trade).

With Howie Kendrick down with a knee injury, Green made his Angels’ debut last night to take Kendrick’s position for the time being. What can we expect from him?
